You can’t tell if you’re pregnant for sure going only by symptoms, because every pregnancy symptom can also have another explanation: constipation, PMS, indigestion, low blood sugar, a mild flu. The only ways to find out if you’re really pregnant or not are to wait until you have either a period or a baby, or c). take a home-pregnancy test.

If you take a test before your period is late, there’s a fairly large chance you could get a false negative (in other words, the pregnancy test says you’re not pregnant when you actually are). It takes as long as 7-10 days from conception for most pregnancy tests to be able to detect a positive.

If you think your period is late but you’re not quite sure how late (because not all of us write down the first day of every period every time) and a pregnancy test is negative, take another test every two to three days until your period comes or a test is positive. In the meantime, don’t drink alcohol or smoke, avoid hot tubs, take a prenatal vitamin supplement and make sure any other supplements and medications you take are safe for use during pregnancy.

If you haven’t had a period in six to eight weeks or more, but you’re still getting negative pregnancy tests, call your doctor or local women’s health clinic. Losing or gaining a lot of weight, exercising more, travel and stress can all cause late periods, but if you’ve had sex in the past month, especially once or more without using birth control, pregnancy is a real possibility. If you go to a clinic or see your doctor, you’ll be given another pregnancy test, examined for signs of pregnancy

If your pregnancy test is positive, the health care practitioner will help guide you through the next steps- an ultrasound to see how far along the pregnancy is if you’re not sure of the date of your last period, prescribing vitamins and talking about recommended prenatal screening tests.

I hope you have your answer soon!
