I have a 9 month old boy and I want to wean him off the bottle, but I feed him just before he goes to bed at 8:30 – 9:00 p.m. Do I still feed him at that time or do I just feed him at supper and that is it for the night? He does sleep until 5:30a.m. when I get up. I just don’t know what to do about weaning him from the bottle and if I should to contuine to feed him at 8:30 or not. Please help”
If you want a restful night, then it probably is a good idea to make sure your son has fed within an hour before going to bed, even if he just has a little milk or formula to top off his tank. Most pediatricians recommend that breast milk or formula serve as a baby’s primary source of nutrition until 12 months of age. If weaning happens while you’re trying to transition from the bottle to a cup, make sure he’s mastered the cup before you take all the bottles away. If he’s especially attached to the bottle before bed, make that the last one you try to take away (just make sure you brush any of his teeth before putting him down for bed). Give him plenty of time to practice the cup while he’s well rested and in a good mood.
