I have a mole on my left breast that keeps appearing with black spots on it. It looks nothing like my other moles and I was just wondering if it was my hormones or if it is something else. I didn’t have it until I got pregnant. What do I do? Should I be concerned?

Pregnancy hormones can and do cause plenty of skin pigment changes, including freckles where you didn’t used to have any, and darkening of moles and freckles that you had before. So odds are that this mole is simply the result of hormonal side effects. Still, it’s a good idea to point it out to your care provider, particularly if the mole is asymmetrical (not the same shape on both sides), has an irregular border, and/or has different colors in it. These are all symptoms of melanoma, which is the number one cause of cancer death in women aged 25 – 30. It is possible to have melanoma and be pregnant, too, so it’s best to play it safe and have your doctor check it out.
