why am i so tired all the time? this is my second child and with my first i had a whole lot of energy and now i cant seem to stay awake”
A few different factors could be involved in making you extra tired this pregnancy. First, there’s the obvious: last time around you didn’t have another child to take care of, and you were younger. You have less time to take care of yourself and exercise, and regular exercise is a huge energy boost. There’s also the possibility that you have physical issues you didn’t have last time, such as anemia or a thyroid-hormone imbalance– it’s worthwhile to tell your doctor about your fatigue so these potential causes can be ruled out.
Also consider that having another child to care for might mean that you’re not able to eat as regularly as you did before, and low blood sugar is a major cause of fatigue. If you skip breakfast, for instance, you may find yourself hitting a wall of fatigue in the afternoon. Eating a snack every couple of hours can also help keep your blood sugar from dropping. Even if you’re not hungry, try having a handful of almonds, a cup of yogurt, an apple, or some other small snack between meals every day to keep your levels steady. Dehydration can also contribute to fatigue; it can help to carry a water bottle with you and sip all day.
And finally, some pregnancies are simply more taxing than others. If that’s the case, taking plenty of naps is the only cure.
