Fertilization can take from 24 hours to five days to happen. This is because while an egg only lives for 24 hours, sperm can live and wait for an egg for as long as four days, then it takes about 24 hours for the sperm to break through the egg and fertilize it. Then it takes 7-10 days for the fertilized egg to implant and grow blood vessels into your uterine lining. Once the connection is made from the fertilized egg to your bloodstream your body will start producing hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), the hormone that pregnancy tests detect and which also triggers all of those symptoms and physical changes that come with pregnancy.

So even if conception happens within the first 24 hours, at minimum it will still take 8-10 days for your body to produce any pregnancy hormones, and it usually takes from 10 days to two weeks after conception before you’re producing enough hCG to get a positive pregnancy test and to experience noticeable pregnancy symptoms like sensitive nipples, odor sensitivity, nausea and so on. And some women never experience the classic pregnancy symptoms. Each pregnancy is different, and it’s possible to have a lot of symptoms with one pregnancy and then very few with the next.
