3rd Trimester Vaginal Pain – Help!

Marcie Jones Leave a Comment

i am 34 weeks pregnant and once in a while i get these sharp pains in my vagina, jsut for a second then its gone. just wondering what this might be.”

That’s the baby getting on your nerves! Both men and women have a network of nerves, muscles and ligaments that go from the spine to down and around the genital area, kind of like a hammock. Your baby goes through a period of rapid weight gain in the last six weeks of pregnancy, and that causes a downward pressure on this area that can briefly compress nerves and cause sharp pains. If the baby’s dropped—that is, his or her head has engaged in the pelvis—that can make the compression and pains more intense. Lying down or soaking in a bath or swimming pool can help take the pressure off, and if you have a desk job, be sure to take plenty of breaks to change position. And don’t forget to Kegel!
