Can I Soak in a Hot Tub?

Marcie Jones Leave a Comment

Hi! I’m 37 weeks pregnant. I think I’ve passed my mucous plug. Wondering if I can soak in my hot tub still as my lower back and pelvic area are sore. I don’t want to subject the baby to infection by soaking in our tub.”

While soaking in water above 102 degrees is advised against during the first trimester, under-15-minute soaks in 104-degree-or-less water are great for easing late-pregnancy muscle aches. It’s okay to soak in a tub if you’ve passed some mucous, as long as your water hasn’t broken. Just stay hydrated and be careful of slipping as you get out.

And keep the hot tub clean: if it’s a free-standing hot tub as opposed to a tub bath make sure someone drains and cleans the tub and filters at least every two months, tests disinfection levels daily and makes sure the pump runs constantly and is flushing the lines.
