Painful Baby Kicks, Should I Worry?

Marcie Jones Leave a Comment

Hi, I’m having some slight trouble with my baby’s movements. This is my second child and to be honest I dont remember my duaghter ever having kicking me or moving as much as this baby boy. I feel him lower in my stomach, like by my bladder or something. I feel like he’s sticking his foot out. Im only 25 weeks but the movements are little painful at times. Should I be worried or is it just my nerves?”

It sounds like your little boy is healthy and vigorous, and that’s a great thing! You don’t need to worry that he can cause damage to you from the inside or that anything is wrong, though a well-placed kick to your bladder can be painful and startling and even make you leak a little! Unfortunately second pregnancies often come with more aches and pains, especially if you’re an older mom and have gained weight and not exercised your abdominal and pelvic-floor muscles much since your first child was born. The muscles and ligaments that hold a pregnant belly up loosen over time and with inactivity, and your first pregnancy may have also made your hips a little bit wider. So this means the baby is riding lower down and isn’t as supported, making those bony heels able to kick right through your uterus (which has no nerves) literally on your nerves. You may find that a belly-support band helps, and encouraging the baby to move by changing position often and staying active.
