I have two yeast infections since I’ve been pregnant and I am now 34 weeeks but before I got pregnant, I’ve never had one before, why is that?”

Yeast infections are really common during pregnancy. They can’t harm you or the baby, though they can be extremely annoying. They’re caused by an imbalance between the acid levels in your vagina and the usually friendly organisms that live there. During pregnancy, your body temperature is slightly elevated and your vaginal secretions contain more sugar, two factors that help the yeast to grow. Your care provider will be able to recommend the best course of treatment, usually a seven-night course of terconazole cream. (Shorter-duration treatments are available, but they don’t work as well.) To help avoid getting a third yeast infection, try consuming a serving of yogurt with live cultures every day, try to cut down the sugar and simple carbohydrates in your diet, wear cotton underwear, and avoid wearing tight pants, thong underpants and taking extended warm baths.
