is it common to have a yeast infection while pregnant? if so what can you take to get rid of it that wont hurt me or the baby?”

Yeast infections are very common in pregnancy, because hormonal changes can upset the balance of bacteria. If you do get a yeast infection or experience any kind of vaginal itching, burning, or experience unusual discharge or painful urination, tell your care provider right away, and don’t try to self-diagnose or medicate, because other conditions like vaginitis can have similar symptoms, such as bacterial vaginosis or a Group B strep infection. Also, some yeast infection treatments shouldn’t be used during the first trimester, and urinary tract infections can only be treated with prescription antibiotics.

You can help avoid yeast infections, though, by keeping your diet low in sugar and simple carbs, eating lots of pro-biotic foods like yogurt, only wearing cotton underwear, and avoiding long, hot baths and douching.
