Q. My husband was wondering when I will actually start to show through my clothes cause I do have a little round belly but it doesn’t show through my clothes. I told him I’m only 12 weeks, it will happen soon enough but he wants to know when?”
Having an obvious pregnant belly actually takes longer than most people expect!
For the first two to three months of pregnancy, it’s normal to just look a little round, like you might have just put on a couple of extra pounds. If you’re a first-time mom it may not be until after week 24 or so that a bump will start to get visible through close-fitting clothes, and it can take until the 3rd trimester to get the classic pregnant belly you see in magazines, movies and cocoa butter ads. Short-waisted women will look pregnant earlier, and women who have been pregnant before may have a distinct little bump as early as 15-16 weeks, because your muscles actually “remember” the pregnant position and assume it sooner.
Taller, larger-boned and longer-waisted women may not have an obvious bump until the 28th week or beyond, and some women who are very overweight may never look really obviously pregnant to strangers on the street. If you want people to see your bump, it’ll show more in close-fitting clothes than billowy ones, and there’s always the option of a t-shirt that announces your pregnancy, too.
