Q. This is my 3rd Pregnancy, and I remember being tired in my 1st trimester with my other pregnancies, but is it normal to be sooo super tired at almost 13 weeks?! I seriously feel like taking 2 hour naps every day when the girls take theirs (well before-but I can’t! lol), but I know I also need to do the stuff that only gets done during their nap time. Could my iron be low or something else?”
Being tired in the teen weeks of pregnancy is to be expected, though of course consider the possibility that your iron and other mineral levels might be low, too. And then there’s the other major difference with this pregnancy—now you have two other children! Your health care provider should be able to check your iron levels. Most prenatal vitamins don’t contain a full daily allowance of iron, and most don’t contain calcium or adequate amounts of magnesium. Compare your vitamin’s label with the Recommended Daily Allowances of vitamins and minerals for pregnancy and fill in any gaps with food sources or additional supplements. Staying hydrated will also help fight fatigue, too, though of course nothing will beat getting more actual rest. Consider hiring a neighborhood teenager to come few days a week after to school to babysit the girls just so you can catch up on your rest.
